New Impulses: The proof is in the pudding#

Was on a business line meet-up with my company. Had a couple of interesting in-depth conversations and presented my work on SEK to them. The meeting was under the banner of AI anyway, so it was natural to me to follow the directive of “let’s talk about AI”.

Although colleagues seemed interested in SEK, many had a hard time following. On one hand, probably because its a different domain from my day-to-day business, on the other hand probably because its technically deep in multiple domains. But yeah, me and their slight intoxication was probably the reason why some colleagues called it a night early…

So I’m working on making conversations about it more enjoyable and less streinous, so that it can be more adjacent to small talk. However, I need to emphasize that I don’t want to fall into the trap of turning it into an elevator pitch. This (might be) an early stage of product discovery, but it definetly is not something I’m aiming to productize…

The semantic execution kernel is just a test-bed to be able to falsify a couple of hypothesis I’ve formed over large language models. Yup, it’s fun to develop and it taught me a lot, but ultimatively it’s a throwaway project and when trying to explain to colleagues what I’m actually doing, I’ve drifted way off into explaining how the kernel works, instead of explaining what my assumptions and hypothesis are. I’ve probably talked more about clone devices and line discipline than about the models…

So to summarize where I go from here:

  • Always be able to demo my findings on the spot. If I just have a phone with me, good, then I’ll demo it through the phone. Only have my work laptop with me, good, then I’ll demo it through my work laptop.

  • I won’t be able to always demo my findings, so to have done a proper falsifiable experiment is the next best thing. Document things thorougly and make stuff repeatable, not just on my own hardware and under my own circumstances.
